February Late: Rainbow Pilgrims, A Mile in My Shoes and No Turning Back

Migration Museum at The Workshop

Thursday 22 February 2018 | 6.00pm–9.00pm Migration Museum at the Workshop 26 Lambeth High Street, London, SE1 7AG Free admission Join us on Thursday 22 February for a jam-packed late opening, featuring the launch of Rainbow Pilgrims – a new pop-up exhibition exploring the hidden history of LGBTQI migrants in Britain; a chance to catch the new version of the Empathy Museum’s acclaimed immersive exhibit A Mile in My Shoes; and an opportunity to see our No Turning Back: Seven Migration Moments that Changed Britain, grab a drink and meet our team. Rainbow Pilgrims is an archive and oral history project about LGBTQI migrants. To coincide with LGBT history month, it is launching a new travelling pop-up exhibition, which will have its first public showing in the ground floor Community Room at The Workshop this evening. As well as an opportunity to see the new exhibition, visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in a new audio installation, watch mini documentaries at a pop-up cinema, get creative and make a zine, and have a chat and a drink with the Rainbow Pilgrims team – drinks courtesy of VIVID drinks. Location: Community Room, Ground floor, The Workshop For more information, visit the Rainbow Pilgrims website A Mile in My Shoes – Migration is a new version of the Empathy Museum’s acclaimed immersive exhibit A Mile in My Shoes. Housed in a giant shoebox in the car park outside the main entrance to the Migration Museum at The Workshop from 8–25 February, this brand-new version of A Mile in My Shoes brings together a collection of new audio stories shared by refugees and migrants who have made London their home, from a Nigerian barber to a Syrian dentist. This is your last opportunity to come and walk a mile in someone else’s shoes – literally – while listening to their story. No booking is required, just turn up on the evening – capacity is limited, however, so early arrival is recommended in order to guarantee a slot. Location: in the car park outside the main entrance to The Workshop For more information, visit the A Mile in My Shoes event page and the Empathy Museum website No Turning Back: Seven Migration Moments that Changed Britain is an acclaimed exhibition from the Migration Museum exploring seven migration moments throughout history that changed Britain through art, photography, graphics, quotes and stories. This is an opportunity to view the exhibition after work. Drinks will be available and members of the Migration Museum team will be running boat and badge making workshops related to the exhibition. Location: in the Migration Museum at The Workshop’s first floor gallery space For more information, visit our No Turning Back exhibition page
