Sunday 23 October 2022 11am–4pm Free – book via Eventbrite This year marks 50 years since Idi Amin ordered the expulsion of Asians from Uganda. Over 60,000 Ugandan Asians were forced to leave, and around 27,000 with British passports came to the UK. Join us to commemorate the anniversary of the Ugandan Asian expulsion and and share your experiences at the Migration Museum. Activities include author readings, dance performance by Sujata Banerjee, live storytelling about the impact of the expulsion on Ugandan Asian families living in Britain today, film screening, food and art activities for all ages. We will also have opportunities for visitors to share and record their own personal stories. All activities are free and open to all. 11:30 – 11:45 Dance performance by Showmi Das from Sujata Bannerjee Dance Company Outside the Migration Museum in Central Square (in front of the Berlin Wall artwork)   12:00 – 12:15 Storytelling session Corner Shop Hear people’s stories about the expulsion and lives in Britain and share your story. 12:30 – 13:15 Spoken word poetry, author readings and panel discussion Event and education space With Sejal Sachdev, Sejal Majithia-Jaswal, Bina Briggs Bharti Dhir, Urmila Patel and Max Russel. Facilitated by Dolar Vasani. 13:30, 14:30 & 15:30 Storytelling session Corner Shop Hear people’s stories about the expulsion and lives in Britain and share your story. 14:00 & 15:00 Dancing Event and education space Join Showmi Das for garba dancing sessions   All Day (11am–4pm) Exhibition by Ugandan Asians – A living history Event and education space Film screenings Event and education space Watch short films from Inspirate and RIFCO Theatre Company.
